It’s one of the “in” things on the dating scene. Throughout the country pubs and clubs are quickly catching onto the marketing power of speed dating and the positive effect it can have on their profit margin! If you’ve seen the posters advertising these, but haven’t had the courage to turn up to one yet, why not get a couple of friends to go with you, and see what goes on. At the very least you’ll have a new experience to talk about. Before you go however, here are 5 things you need to know about speed dating:

1. The rules are the rules. You don’t make them, you can’t break them. If the speed dating host gives you just 5 minutes with each person in the room, that’s all you’ll get. Try to hang on to someone longer and they’ll be someone trying to edge into your seat before you get out of it! On the other hand, there are bound to be people there where spending 5 minutes with them will seem a lifetime.

2. Not everyone is there looking for a life partner. Some people go on speed dating nights because they just don’t have time to take things one partner/one night at a time. Others come on speed dating nights because they want to touch base with as many potential dates as possible. Some speed daters are almost habitual about it, they have no intention of actually hooking up with someone in a one-to-one relationship. Then of course there are those who are desperately seeking that special person in their lives and wonder if it’s you. None of these types of speed dater are bad, but you need to be aware of their existence so you don’t get caught up with someone who hasn’t the same expectation of the evening as you have.

3. This leads nicely onto tip 3. Don’t have a high level of romantic expectation from the speed dating experience. I’m not saying it’s not going to happen, what I am saying is that if you gauge the success of the evening on finding a soul mate, then you will probably be disappointed. Instead take a more fun approach and have an expectation of meeting some interesting people some of who you’d like to know better. That way you’re sure to have a much better experience.

4. Do your homework! Find out how long you will have to sell yourself to each candidate and then make sure you have enough to say that will let them see your real personality shine through. Have questions to ask shy candidates to try and draw them out a little and see that you’re approachable. Don’t monopolize the dates. If you talk all the time you aren’t finding out about them, and if you had taken the time to do so, you might not find yourself on a proper date with someone who bores you to tears! Divide the time so that you alternate between listening and talking.

5. Never give out more personal information than you’re happy about anyone in the street knowing about you. As with any dating situation personal safety must be your number one priority. It’s fine to give your name, but leave contact numbers, addresses, specific workplace locations for another time when you’re more comfortable about who you’re talking to.

So there you go. Sign up for the next speed dating evening you see advertised and get out there and have some fun!

Our appearance has become important to us not just for social reasons, but also professional reasons. Depending on where you work, there is a certain level of care that is now expected of us as part of our jobs. For example, a receptionist who looks presentable, in a smart outfit comes across so much more professional to visitors than someone a little scruffy looking. The visitor doesn’t see how efficient she/he is/isn’t at their job but judges by appearance. So it is important that we all look good. London is one of the cities that this is happening most in.
People are turning to treatments to help them. Things like Microdermabrasion to help the skin are become more and more popular in London. Why is it these particular ones that are seeing a rise in the city? Well, the skin is the first thing that people see, so it is the skin that takes priority when people think about altering their body. Things like acne scar laser treatment to remove previous scar tissue are also becoming popular, with a similar rise with people buying acne skin care products as a preventative measure. (more…)

There’s a common belief that women have a tendency to “glow” during pregnancy. However although you may find yourself in this fortunate position, it’s not going to be everyone’s experience so you need to be prepared in case you are one of those who’s skin has a negative change during pregnancy.

The skin changes are mainly caused by the hormones that run amok during a woman’s body throughout pregnancy. These hormones can help the skin keep moisture locked in and therefore providing the “glow” that a pregnant woman hopes for, or they can be the cause of redness. Whereas some people may have a supple blemish-free skin (perhaps for the first time in their lives), other women have to cope with scaly, dry skin and fight a war against spots. Even women who have never had a spot problem in their lives may find that they are coping with acne!

Those of you who find that your skin is less than perfect during pregnancy need to implement a good skincare routine that involves thorough cleansing using products such as a soap that’s glycerine based, or baby lotion as normal soap products will make the situation worse by removing more of the skin’s natural oils. Unless you have a toner that won’t dehydrate your skin, you should skip this part of your routine and instead give yourself a good application of moisturizer that you should massage carefully into your face. You may even want to consider using two different moisturizers; one that soaks quickly into your skin to hydrate the lower skin cells, and one that stays mainly to work on improving the top skin.

If you have a skin problem that does resemble that of a teenager with acne, then you shouldn’t use the products that are sold for that purpose. Instead try to counteract the hormones with a good routine as outlined above, and if it doesn’t improve ask your doctor if they can recommend a cream for you to use. You should also avoid picking at the spots as this can spread infection over you face which will make the situation worse rather than better!

For most pregnant women, the bad facial skin problems only last for the first two trimesters. After this the hormones start to direct themselves elsewhere and your face will start to look healthier – and by maintaining the healthy skincare routine you’ve been using thus far, you’ll ensure that you glow up to childbirth and beyond!

Wrinkles are the bane of any age-conscious woman’s life, but as natural as they are, there are some steps that you can take to at least slow down the process and ensure that your skin is looking as good as it can be – and they don’t include the use of Botox or other injectables!

1. The first step is to stop any bad life> Too much alcohol dehydrates your skin which needs moisture to glow and retain its elasticity. Smoking prevents, among other things, collagen from doing its job and repairing skin that has become damaged. It also reduces the efficiency of blood flow within the blood vessels on your face – which in turns means that you lose your healthy glow as well as creating a place for wrinkles to thrive!

2. Watch what you eat. Eating a healthy nutritional diet can help promote healthy skin which in turn should keep the wrinkles at bay. Drinking water is one of the easiest, and yet most important ways of ensuring that your skin is hydrated so ensure that you drink the required amount of water each day.

3. Next take a look at what you’re using to cleanse your skin. Both harsh soaps, and hot water, will have an adverse effect on your skin. Even facial cleansers can harm your skin if they are too strong for your skin type. Make sure that you know what kind of skin you have, use an appropriate cleanser that contains as few chemicals as possible, and only ever use warm water on your face.

4. Never, ever go to bed leaving your make-up on. Finding the right kind of skincare products for your skin and then always ensuring a good evening skincare maintenance routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing will ensure that your pores remain unclogged, and your skin properly hydrated.

5. Everyone knows that the sun is harmful on the skin, but if you want to sport a tan, but avoid the wrinkles, then you need to protect not just your skin, but also your eyes. One of the most common places to find wrinkles is around the eyes, and squinting in bright sunlight is one of the major causes of this. Prevent this by always ensuring you wear sunglasses when you’re outside in the sun.

None of the above are steps that require a lot of money, or time – they just need a bit of common sense and a willingness to be pro-active in the war against wrinkles. Keeping your skin healthy and supple longer will in turn keep the wrinkles down to a minimum!

Wrinkles are a visual statement of your general age and health, and so it’s little wonder that women hate them! With this in mind, there are a number of different treatments available to help women retain some of their mystic by masking or even obliterating the wrinkles and so make their skin appear younger and healthier than it actually is. One of these methods is using injectable treatments.

There are two different types of injectable wrinkle treatments available, and neither of them will be available at a walk-in salon! If this kind of procedure sounds as if it’s just what you’re looking for, then you’re going to need to consult with your GP at the least, but better yet, a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist. For someone who has prematurely aged skin, or has a skin problem then a GP may be willing to make some form of referral to a skin care professional who can help with these procedures, but if it’s something you want done just to hold back time, then you’ll probably have to find a specialist and pay privately for this – your local GP’s office may be willing to advise on reputable practices for the treatment however.

The first of the treatments is used on dynamic wrinkles. The muscles that cause you to squint or frown create these, and the treatment involves injecting a muscle relaxant into the area ( such as botox). Don’t expect an instant transformation however as it could take a week before the full benefits can be seen – and then you can expect to repeat the procedure about 3 times a year to maintain the look.

The second treatment is used on static wrinkles. These use dermal fillers below the wrinkle to plump it up (Such as perlane). A few injections is needed on the treatment and it could be that an anesthetic will be applied to numb down the treatment area. As with the first treatment however this is a temporary fix, and you’ll need to schedule another date after about 6 months.

It is possible to have side effects from the injections such as swelling, redness or burning at the injection site. More sure you are aware of the possible side effects before you have the treatment so that you know what’s normal, and what’s not once you get home from the treatment centre.

Ok, maybe it sounds a little dramatic, but it's not just a cliché against fast-food and how bad it is for you, it's a fact: if you constantly eat only this kind of so called “junk food”, the risk of getting skin cancer increases exponentially.

You might be wondering what the food you eat has to do with your skin. It's quite simple, the connection in done after the food has been digested, and it has to do with the fats and sugars contained by all types of ready-to-go foods we eat so often. The risk of getting cancer from eating hamburgers is much higher in women than in men. An excess of junk food associated with already high glucose levels cause your blood to be pumping along too much sugar, that is the main cause in skin cancer. However, when it comes to men, lots of blood sugar help them stay healthier as strange as it might seems, reducing the prostate cancer risk.

There's an upside to this story also - just stop all that junk food eating and you will not only keep a healthy figure but also reduce greatly the risk of skin cancer.

First, find out if there were any cases of skin cancer in your family, if they were then you are more exposed than anyone.

The most common types of skin cancer are the ones provoked by sun exposure so people are advised never to expose themselves to sun between 12 p.M. And 4 p.M.

Most people with skin cancer have white skin especially people with blonde or red hair so if you find yourself in this category be careful, a simple walk in the sun may damage your skin.

Skin cancer can be treatable in its earlier states but if not treated on time, it will be a terrible and painful disease.
