You Tube – A Box Of Delights

Sometimes I wonder whether all the the personal technology we have now, from smart phones to interactive TV’s is any good for our health. It’s all supposed to make life easier, but as far as I can see it more often than not, makes it worse. Perhaps it’s just that it takes me longer to understand how to work these gadgets, but when first confronted with the latest upgrade, my levels of stress go through the roof. I’ve only just managed to get the hang of my TiVo box, but not before several screaming matches between the TV and myself, as my picture froze yet again.

 

It’s good then, every so often, to remind yourself, that all our clever gizmo’s can make life feel better too. My world has certainly been made merrier by You Tube, a modern box of delights, if ever there was one. All known recorded life seems to be on it, be it an early AC/DC video, (yes some of us girls do love Angus and Co), of Bon Scott and the band, being driven around a bewildered Melbourne, while playing “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock N’Roll), to Groucho Marks, asking a bewildered panel show guest, whether he was a “corrupt politician”, on the 1950′s US show, “What’s My Line”.

Many of it’s true gems though, are home made videos, by one must suppose, normal people, although God knows that is open to question. My current favourite, is a fake charity appeal, from a teenager boy, (no more than 12, I should guess), who has taken to sporting an outrageous moustache, dressing up in a suit and calling himself “Fancy Man” to raise money so that he can buy a fancier suit for himself, from a tailors called King and Allen. This kid is going to go far, either as an entrepreneur, a comedian or both. Without You Tube, he might not not have found an outlet for his particular talents and I might have missed out on a good laugh. We’re both winners.

Unfortunately, mental health is not something that can be achieved by simply exercising your mind. It is possible to maintain physical fitness using mindless repetition of exercises. Recently I decided to change my eating habits and consume much healthier foods. My doctor advised me to ensure that I get the required amount of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. He also said I should take a multivitamin with the recommended amounts of Vitamin A.

My problem is that I did not consume the required amounts of protein from the foods that I eat. So I opted for a protein powder. As for the vitamins I found out that your body needs certain vitamins and minerals to function properly. Vitamin A is one of these essential vitamins.

Different forms of Vitamin A are found in different processes in your body. These processes are essential functions, and without vitamin A, can cause serious health problems.

Vitamin A helps maintain healthy cells in your eyes. Retinal, one form of vitamin A, helps your retina change light into nerve signals, allowing you to see images.

With insufficient vitamin A, you can develop vision problems like poor night vision. Other vision problems include dryness in your eyes, as well as bitot spots, which, if left untreated, can lead to blindness.

Women on The Apprentice

Sometimes in life you just have to take a stand and speak up for yourself at the risk of getting shouted down: this is one of those times, right here, right now. The stand in question is against all those people who keep saying that the women on The Apprentice are bitchy, rude and argumentative (and not just the women in the BBC show, but all women in business who are forced to work alongside men). In my opinion – which I am just about to get very vocal about, as if you didn’t know – you’re all very wrong, and here is the reason why.

Hold on to your groins, men.

Yes these women may be loud, and yes they may get into arguments, but don’t get this confused with women on a mission to win what is essentially a game-show. Competing against not only men, but other widely held stereotypes, it isn’t really surprising that they get a bit assertive now, is it? Something else which must be remembered is that the men are just as bad. The difference is only in the way they tend to argue: rather than the squabbling, the men usually resort to macho face-offs which are aggressive on a more personal level. Now to my mind that’s just unnecessary and often plain rude.
