Nick Clegg makes me feel ill

What I find most difficult to stomach about Nick Clegg at the moment is when he says things like the spending cuts are the ’only choice’. He insults the intelligence of the population of the UK with such definitive and inaccurate information. The people of this country have a right to make choices, and the result of a hung parliament means that there is no clear public mandate for an ideological shift in the structure of the state.
He talks about the conference in Brussels after the election and his fear that Britain would have its hand forced by “market panic”. It is clearly a choice for a country to develop and implement domestic policy that is driven by ’market forces’. He is assuming a general level of stupidity around issues of how economics work, and a belief that socialism is off of the table. Perhaps it is.
Labour removed Clause 4 in 1995 so perhaps there is no party that believes that a population of a country can make moral choices and implement them and attempt to defy the selfish and illogical structure of international finance.
Even Nick Clegg is shaking his head at the bank bonuses. What are they thinking that they can reward themselves before paying back the tax payer that saved their necks? They are thinking that they got away with it. If they are thinking of cutting government budgets between 25 and 40 percent are they stupid not thinking of the knock on effects? Are those employees going to spend out at Christmas? Shops anticipating the consumer austerity are they going to take on additional holiday staff?
Already, the pinch can be felt locally with a reticence to hire across the board. Who will benefit? Aldi and pound shops for sure, even my posh in laws have taken to shopping at discount retailers and using Tesco.com discount vouchers. What exactly does he think is going on!?
