One Fan’s Opinion
I, like many girls of a certain age (ahem, I may have had laser treatment once or twice and that’s al I’m saying about that…), remember the original theme-tunes to Home and Away and Neighbors. And how great they were! But then what’s this? The other day I turn Channel 5 on and what do I see and hear before me? Home and Away, of course–But somehow different–Not only different, but wrong: what I am speaking of, as you have probably already guessed, is the perversion of perfectly good theme-tunes. Why do it producers?! If you do feel the need to change it then why not change it completely? Why just change it a bit and let us old trusty fans suffer!
I wouldn’t have minded so much—after all, you can only hear the theme tune to a soap so many thousand times without going quite mad—only they had done things with the theme tune which were wholly unnecessary: sexed-up I think is the expression. And in doing so the innocence I had loved as a girl had been destroyed for all time!
You might notice I am a bit of a fan of Home and Away–
But I think I have every right to feel in distress about this. Us fans already have to cope with having lost our favourite actors for no reason at all, and now we are forced to accept these lesser modern day equivalent actors. I’m telling you, the only two things that brought a smile to my face when I watched that show the other day were these: 1) The Surf Shack was still in use and 2) Alf Stewart was still there!
